May 1st, 2026

May 1st, 2026, marks exactly 40 years since Voice FM officially took to the airwaves as a fully licensed community broadcaster.

To celebrate four decades of being Ballarat’s local voice, we’re hosting a massive on-air anniversary special.

Tune in all day as we open the archives and welcome back previous presenters to share their favourite memories. We’ll be tracing our journey from the original 3BBB days to now, playing the iconic hits that defined our first broadcasts.

It’s a day of history, music, and community—don’t miss a moment of the celebration!

7am to 9am - Ben Daniel and Belinda Wardle

Ben joined the station as a teenager in 1993 and has been involved in many facets of the Station’s On Air life and now our Acting Station Manager.

Belinda Wardle is our Vice Chair and Community Access Announcer in recent years.

9 am to 10 am Nick Pollock & Merv Romeo

Nick Pollock got involved in afternoon and country shows in the early 90’s 

and Merv Romeo is a Life Member and one of our original champions of Country music on 3BBB and Voice FM.

10 am to 11 am - Paul Demunk 40th Birthday Special - One to One.

Paul was instrumental in starting Student Radio at Mt Clear College in the 80’s and joined 3BBB in the late 80’s presenting Top 40 and Comedy shows. 

He produced a 19 part series in 1996 for our 20th Birthday and these programs can be heard 4 times each week in different timeslots.

11am to 12 pm Helen Bath

Helen was Station Manger through the 2000’s and beyond, and made a huge contribution to keeping the Station on air, plus bringing the community into our radio station. 

12 pm - 1 pm DJ Louis J Kelly

Louis has always been known as the Mayor of Black Hill and has presented Country and Reggae of 3BBB and Voice FM for 40 years. He is a 3BBB Titan.

1 pm - 2 pm David Dahlenburg with guest Cathy Caven

Dave is another Life Member and was our founding Station Manager from 

the 1983 test transmissions until 1996. He has recently returned to our airwaves playing country and electric and instrumental music. Cathy is the literal glue that kept the station together back in the late 80s/early 90s as Office Manager.

2pm - 3pm Jake Stark

Jake was an original indy rock announcer from in Drive and late night from1986 and had one of the most envied collections of vinyl amongst our early announcers. 

3 pm - 4 pm Sean - 1986 Special

Sean is a recent recruit and loves the 80’s. In tribute to 3BBB, he will be presenting a 1986 80’s Special with all you favourite artists.

4 pm - 6 pm Playa D with Drive

Playa D is Voice FM’s resident Funk, R&B , Jazz and Soul DJ and presents several shows each week and celebrates our broadcasting on Wadawurrung Country.

6pm TBC
8pm - Matt Malone

Matt has spent 10 years championing original Australian music on Voice FM and is presenting a special 2 hour show for our 40th Birthday.
